West Central High School is an Indiana Four Star School
Congratulations to West Central High School for achieving Four Star status by the Indiana
Department of Education! The data was just released by the Indiana Department of Education for the 2011-12 school year. The methodology is to calculate the percentage passing the ECA English 10 and ECA Algebra I for the 10th grade cohort (class of 2014).
All WCHS administrators, staff and students are very proud of this positive recognition by the Indiana Department of Education. Only 67 high schools in the state received Four Star status and very few in our area.
CONGRATULATIONS to all and JOB WELL DONE!!!

The conclusion of the 2012-13 school year will mark the end of a long and successful career in education for two WCHS teachers.
Betty Sprunger and Linda Fergurson have announced their retirement from education effective at the end of the current school year.
Miss Sprunger taught for 35 years at West Central School Corporation, teaching middle and high school physical education and high school health. She also had a very successful coaching career at WCHS. She spent 4 years as girls varsity basketball coach, 5 years as girls varsity track coach and 20 years as girls varsity volleyball coach. In volleyball she accumulated over 300 wins and won 7 Midwest Conference championships as well as 3 sectional crowns -- all back when Indiana did not have class sports! Her track teams also won 2 Midwest Conference championships.
"I have been rewarded with a great opportunity here at West Central High School. I will take with me many memories that will last forever," stated Miss Sprunger. "I will really miss the people I have worked with!"
When asked her plans for the future, Miss Sprunger hopes to spend time with her dogs and train them NOT to get up at 4 AM, volunteer at Grissom Air Force Reserve Base, travelling, gardening, scrapbooking, and many around-the-house projects.
After a year at North Decatur High School near Greensburg, Indiana, Miss Ferguson spent the next 36 years employed by the West Central School Corporation. She has taught a wide array of business classes for all three schools at WCSC: Keyboarding for grades K,1,3-12, Accounting and IVY Tech Accounting for medical assistant students, Business Math, Business foundations (Introduction to Business), Business Law, Computer Skills--grade 8, Digital Communication Tools for HS and 7th grade, Desktop Publishing, Computer Programming, Computer Applications, and Advanced Computer Applications (dual credit with IVY Tech).
"I am grateful for the years of employment with West Central School Corporation. I'll miss the daily interaction with school community members. So much has changed over the years. I know everyone will automatically think of technology and yes, that has made a big impact on what we are able to do in the classroom, but I'm also thinking of new methodology and accountability requirements." stated Miss Ferguson. "I wish everyone knew how hard the corporation works to make WCSC a safe place to learn and how much we really want the students to succeed."
There is one thing that has not changed." summed up Miss Ferguson, "A child's education is best tackled on two fronts: At school with caring, educated instructors and at home with caring, involved parents."
When asked her retirement plans, Miss Ferguson stated she plans to continue building Ferguson Honeybees. She would like to try some part-time employment and travel to some states she has never seen. She also has plans to attend the Ghirardelli Chocolate Festival.
Both retirees were honored at a breakfast ceremony by staff, administrators, and school board members prior to the last teacher day of school.
If you would like to get in touch with either of the retiring teachers, you can email them via the Contact/Teacher Directory section of the WCHS web site.
Best wishes to both ladies on a long and prosperous retirement.
